Benefits that Porcelain Veneers Can Provide
As you know, people tend to make snap judgments when they first meet someone, whether introduced on the street or in a store, on a first date, or at a job interview. If they are not greeted with a full smile, they might feel the other person isn’t very friendly. If you hesitate because you lack confidence about your smile, you may be a good candidate for an easy upgrade with porcelain veneers.
Dental porcelain is like cosmetic porcelain, but much stronger, and it is translucent, giving it the appearance of real teeth. It is so durable that, with good care, porcelain veneers could last 10-15 years, making them an excellent investment in a cosmetic smile makeover. Less expensive veneers made of resin do not last nearly as long and do not look as natural.
Veneers can fix many problems that you may have been born with or are the result of poor dental hygiene or even accidents:
- Chipping, cracking, or fracturing.
- Teeth that have been reduced due to grinding during sleep.
- Staining and discoloration, which are the result of drinking a lot of coffee, tea, red wine, and other dark beverages or eating strongly colored foods, as well as using some medications and mouthwashes.
- Teeth that are slightly misaligned, too small or too large, or that have gaps between them.
Dr. Pirian would start with a full dental examination, including a digital x-ray (which involves minimal radiation). He would then propose a treatment plan to give you that gleaming smile you deserve. This would begin with removing a small amount of the front of the teeth that will receive veneers so that when they are placed, they do not bulge out and just look like the teeth you were born with.
An impression mold would be made to create a temporary set to protect your teeth while the impression is sent to a top dental lab to craft personalized veneers, including the exact shade you want (whether matching those not being treated or, if those do not show, perhaps an even whiter color).
Typically two weeks later, you would return and your teeth would be treated with a bonding agent, the veneers attached, and then hardened with a special light. You will leave our office with a celebrity smile at an affordable price.
In the first weeks after veneers are placed, do not eat hard candy, nuts, apples, seeds, bones, biscuits, or popcorn. Also avoid using your teeth to pull on clothes, open packages, or chew on pens or utensils.
